Essential Parenting Books

A few weeks ago, I put out a call on Twitter and on Facebook for detailed posts that people would like to see. I got enough great responses that I’m going to fill the entire month of July – one post per day – addressing these ideas.

On Facebook, Edita asks an entertaining question: “which parenting books you found most valuable?”

I’ve read a lot of parenting books over the last several years. I’m quite deeply committed to being the best parent I can be and I want to do everything that I can to raise creative, self-reliant children who blossom into creative, self-reliant adults who feel unafraid to tackle anything that the world throws at them.

Three Insurance Policies to Skip

Long time readers of Bargaineering probably recall that I dont have collision or comprehensive insurance on my car. Its a decision that paid off with my first car and one that Ive stuck with on my current car. While it helps that I dont drive very often (I work from home), its a financial risk that Ive decided to take on and certainly not an insurance policy I recommend you skip.

There are, however, plenty of insurance policies out there that I am comfortable suggesting that you skip. Here are just three of them:

Project could bring 600 jobs to Rome

Plans for the distribution center known as Project River have been in the works, but the corporation behind the project has been a mystery.

The Rome News-Tribune reports that a North Carolina firm has taken out legal advertisements seeking workers to do paving and other work for a Lowe’s Home Improvement distribution center in Rome.

The newspaper has reported that Project River, planned for the new 375-acre North Floyd Industrial Park, could bring more than 600 jobs to the site.

Metalworkers end strike as fuel walkout widens

Tens of thousands of workers ended a two-week pay strike in the South African steel and engineering sector on Sunday while petroleum workers plan to widen a week-long walkout that left hundreds of the nation’s fuel pumps dry, union leaders said.

Steel workers accepted a 10% wage rise from the employers’ body, the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of South Africa. Read more…
